Public Meetings 

Tuesday, August 4, 5:15pm - Redding City Council

Among other business, the council will consider funding and other considerations related to the IronMan, which is scheduled to occur in Redding on Aug. 16.

Tuesday, August 5, 6pm - City of Shasta Lake Council

Among other business, the council will discuss whether to apply for a grant to build a community resilience center. From the staff report, the state grant program "supports neighborhood-level facilities that can provide shelter and resources during climate emergencies while offering year-round services and programming that strengthen community resilience" (pg. 35).

CAL EPA's Youth Advisory Council Needs Rural a Voice

Are you a young Californian who cares about the outdoors‚ the environment‚ wildlife and game‚ the state of our forests‚ mountains and rivers?

The California Environmental Protection Agency is opening a unique opportunity to participate in a new statewide Youth Advisory Council‚ designed to improve communication about environmental issues with younger Californians‚ provide mentorship opportunities‚ and increase youth perspectives in decision‑making.

It aims to include youth from a variety of backgrounds‚ including those from rural communities and Native American tribes.

Applicants must be California residents between 14 and 20. A letter of recommendation is required. The application window is Aug. 12 through Sept. 21. More information is available here.

NorCal Regional Safety Symposium 

Are you in leadership at a church‚ mosque‚ synagogue‚ gurdwara or temple?

Unfortunately‚ houses of worship are not immune to the violence in the rest of the world‚ and it is important to mindful of the safety of those at prayer.

Next month‚ the Chico Police Department will host the Nor‑Cal Regional Safety Symposium‚ which is open to religious groups‚ faith‑based institutions and nonprofit groups that serve high‑risk populations. It is offered at no charge‚ and will cover topics including vulnerability and security assessments‚ child abuse awareness and prevention‚ hate crimes‚ cybersecurity‚ and disaster preparedness. Attendees will leave with actionable guidance that organizations can apply immediately.

Location will be provided upon registration.
