Happy Friday!

Our newest story — linked below — focuses on how a local flight school says its been impacted by Anderson Council member Darin Hale's repeated, and unproven, claims that students are engaged in espionage.

I assigned reporter Madison Holcomb to attend the Anderson council's Tuesday meeting where members discussed whether to implement a social media policy that would put restrictions around how city staff and public officials, like Hale, can use social media.

Our focus for the story at the time was on whether the social media policy might violate the the First Amendment rights of city officials. Madison interviewed an expert with the Knight First Amendment Institute, attended the council meeting and prepared a story.

During revisions to that story, I asked her to reach out to the flight school director for comment on the council's decision to implement the social media policy. That's when the story took a turn.
